Shakti Community Council Inc is a non-profit, community organisation catering to social services for Asian, African and Middle Eastern communities in New Zealand . We have vacancies as follows:

Women's Advocate

(full time basis)

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in working with women's organisations. Past experience would be an advantage. Training would be provided.

Skills Required:

Prefer candidate with educational background either in Women & Gender Studies, Law, Counselling, Social Policies or Social Work
Basic understanding of managing a teame
Gender analysis
Be multi-lingual (with knowledge of Hindi and Punjabi apart from English)
Able to meet contractual obligations
Computer skills
Telephone skills
Administration skills
Understanding of cross cultural management
Full driving license

Qualities:

Have a passion to work with women and children
Ideally, have a feminist perspective
Have a vision for better future for ethnic women and families in New Zealand
Able to advocate and stand up for women's issues
Able to work in Human Rights area

COORDINATOR - Domestic Violence Intervention Services

This is a national position, based in Auckland. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in working with women's organisations. Past experience would be an advantage. However, training would be provided.

Skills Required:

People Management
Decision Making
Be Multi-lingual (with knowledge of at least one ethnic language apart from English)
Able to work under pressure and meet contractual obligations
Computer skills
Understanding of cross cultural management
Full driving license
Report writing

Qualities

Have a passion for community work

Have a vision for better future for ethnic women and families in New Zealand
Able to work in Human Rights area

VOLUNTEER

Shakti is looking for volunteers who would like to work in the area of social services, full training will be provided.

On going support for industry based social work Certificate course, which will be sponsored by the organisation for career development.
