Shakti Family Settlement & Social Services Inc. (formerly the Shakti Migrant Resource Centre) has its origins in the Shakti Asian Women's Support Group founded in 1995 by migrant women The Group set up the Shakti Migrant Resource Centre in the year 2000 with the objective of providing advocacy and settlement service for all migrants. The Centre was reconstituted as Shakti Family Settlement & Social Services Inc. under the Shakti Community Council Inc. Mission Statement

Settlement services for migrants: We provide settlement assistance to all migrants through information, advocacy and social services in a culturally supportive manner so as to enable them settle and integrate well within New Zealand society. Advocacy We provide ongoing support, referral and advocacy services to Ethnic people with all Government departments including Immigration, Work & Income, Police, Inland Revenue, Health, Human Rights, Courts, etc. Drop in Centre for Ethnic People We welcome migrants and refugees of all cultural and ethnic background and offer relevant support to them. Anger management programme for Men Assists Ethnic men in understanding, identifying and preventing violent and abusive behaviour irrespective of cultural factors and help them move away from abusive patterns through support and effective anger management. Casework Each case is discussed on a confidential basis following which a specific needs assessment programme is proposed and assistance provided. Community leadership workshops We train community leaders and volunteers on advocacy services and promote awareness of the rights and responsibilities of the migrant Ethnic Community. Workshops include Family & Consumer Law, Employment Relations Act, Treaty of Waitangi, Community Development. Services for children
