History

The New Zealand Sikh Women's Association Inc. is a women's organisation that assists women of Sikh-Indian origin, no matter where they come from. We assist the community in overcoming violence and ensuring a violence free community.

Mission Statement

The organisation promote the women's rights to be educated and lead life safely, happily and independently within the wider community.

Objective

To develop and assist in the empowerment of women. Empowering women means empowering families.

Advocacy

Awareness of women's right and responsibilities.

Services include

•  Skill developments for self- independence:

  • Help boost confidence and self esteem among women and families in the community by recognising their existing skills and adding extra training and education so as to enable them to obtain NZQA- recognised course certificates.
  • Provide Road safety and licensing programmes.
  • Encourage income generation by empowering and enabling women through appropriate projects

•  Domestic Violence Intervention Service

We sissit people in overcoming violence within their homes.

•  Cross- Cultural Training

Promote cultural respect and understanding between Sikh women, Ethnic Migrats and refugee and the New Zealand host community through cross-cultural workshops, orientation and training programmes and cultural events.
