About Shakti Branches

As a leading agency for domestic violence intervention and advocacy, Shakti is dedicated to providing culturally appropriate services, including safe housing for migrant and refugee women from Asian, African, and Middle Eastern backgrounds in Aotearoa.

Shakti Women’s Refuge Trust operates nationally across New Zealand, with branches in Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch, Tauranga, and Hamilton.

We are committed to expanding our support across all regions, ensuring accessible help for those in need.

Auckland

Hamilton

Shakti Hamilton offers a drop-in-centre and provides comprehensive support services to migrant and refugee communities, offering tailored assistance in several areas:

  • Immigration Support: Our dedicated immigration lawyer, who has worked with Shakti for nearly 20 years, provides expert assistance to clients navigating immigration challenges.
  • Legal Aid: We collaborate with trusted law firms that provide legal aid for Protection Orders and other legal matters.
  • Counselling Services: Counselling is available remotely, ensuring accessible mental health support for those in need.
  • Multilingual Staff: Our team includes staff members from diverse cultural backgrounds who offer interpretation services across various languages.
  • Learning Support Programs (LSP): Select courses are available remotely with LSP support.

Additionally, Shakti advocates for clients in key areas, including housing, Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ), Kāinga Ora, medical support, educational needs, court processes, and interactions with the Police.

Please note, while we do not currently operate a refuge in Hamilton, we do offer a drop-in centre and can arrange transfers to Shakti facilities in other regions as needed. Both LSP and counselling services are offered remotely.
