Covid-19 – Shakti running as an ‘essential service’

The lockdown period and the resulting social isolation may potentially escalate risks to women and children who are already unsafe at home. It is important that Shakti’s services remain open; we have contingency plans for our refuges and crisisline. However, we will be taking safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to keep our clients safe. We will be following Ministry of Health policy and will keep up to date with any changes.
Our refuges and crisisline services will remain open for Asian, Middle Eastern and African women and children that need our services. They are welcome to contact us for support or information. If you know someone or are concerned about your neighbours, please call our crisisline.

As a crisis prevention organisation, we cannot afford to close our doors to those who need our help. If you are able to, you can donate to support our services.

This can be a terrifying and stressful time, this means that Racism and Discrimination will also come into play. Don’t let the panic cloud your judgment and resort to blaming and violence. This is a time where we must unite in order to beat the virus.

It is important in these times to keep united and supported each other, especially the most vulnerable ones. In this perspective, Shakti has created a support group for migrant and refugee women to be able to connect, share their concerns, tips and reach for help if needed. You are more than welcome to join if you are seeking this kind of support or keen to offer your support to other women.
