Shakti Community Council Inc. is a 24 years old not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the well-being of migrant refugee women, children and families of Asian, Middle Eastern and African origins. Led by ethnic women for ethnic women, we work to enhance social justice, women’s rights and contribute to safer ethnic communities.

1) POSITION: Social Worker (Christchurch)

About the role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic SPECIALIST CRISIS CASE MANAGER & TEAM LEADER to manage our services and lead our multicultural team of social workers and counsellors, implementing various projects aimed at keeping families safe.

Criteria:

Since this is a senior position, you must have a NZ qualification/recognized qualification in either Community Services, Social Work or Social Services and work experience in the social services sector in New Zealand.

2) POSITION: Operations Manager – Auckland

What would your day look like if you were the Operations Manager of an NGO driven by a passion to keep women, children and communities safe?

This is what it would look like:

  • You will be overseeing our National Office team consisting of personnel managing human resources, funding and finance.
  • You will ensure that policies, standards of practice and quality assurance are maintained by the organisation with respect to management and service delivery.
  • You will work in partnership with the National Service Delivery Manager who oversees our social workers servicing vulnerable Asian, African and Middle Eastern women and families.
  • You will be representing our organisation at various meetings, within networks and with government departments, with media and advocate/lobby for policies that will enhance the lives of migrant and refugee women and communities in New Zealand.
  • You will ensure that our national organisation functions professionally through strengthening relationships between member organisations, between the National Office and member organisations, and actively engage in conflict resolution measures.
  • You will ensure that our organisation remains dynamic, true to its cause, and recognizes the changing needs of New Zealand’s migrant and refugee communities while helping facilitate their short term and long term well-being.
  • Since you are keen to be a social change agent, you will work towards enabling safer, empowered ethnic (Asian, African and Middle Eastern) communities.

Shakti Australia – Sydney is looking for an intern who wants to develop an administrative learning under the supervision of committee.

Skills/Qualifications Required:

Ideally studying subjects related to in gender-based studies, social work, community development, international relations/development and law

Requirements:

  • Relevant study or/and a work experience in communication would be preferable.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Have good command of spoken and written English.
  • Be Multi-lingual, with knowledge of at least one Asian, African or Middle Eastern language apart from English.
  • Full valid driving license would be preferable.

5) POSITION: SOCIAL WORKER (Part-time) – MELBOURNE

Job Description

Shakti Australia Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the well-being of migrant refugee women and families of Asian, Middle Eastern and African origins. Led by ethnic women for ethnic women, we work to enhance social justice, women’s rights and contribute to safer ethnic communities.

We are seeking a Part Time Social Worker to join our team who would work passionately with women and children victims of domestic violence from Asian, African and Middle Eastern communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Crisis response and management: Planning, developing and implementing services in order to respond to crisis in a timely manner to ensuring that clients are safe.
  • Oversee the crisis-line.
  • Accurate intake and returning risk assessment for clients in an efficient and timely manner adhering to Shakti’s policies at all times: Collecting information from clients, identifying their needs and problems areas and make personalized action plans in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Work closely with university to work with and supervise student placements and write report to the university.
  • On going maintaining relationship
    • Client related Documentation Management and reporting.
    • Networking among key community leaders, individuals and organizations in ethnic communities.
