What is Domestic/Family Violence?
Domestic violence, also known as family violence, happens when someone uses control, threats or harm against a person with whom they are, or have been, in a close relationship, such as a family member, extended family member or intimate partner.
It is also a form of gender- based violence where women are more likely to experience violence than men.
Such violence can take many forms, including physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and economic abuse. A person experiencing domestic violence may feel fear, intimidation, loss of freedom and loss of control over their life.
