0800SHAKTI - 24/7 Crisis Line support
Shakti Crisis Line is a national toll-free confidential 24/7 support service for migrant and refugee women facing domestic violence. This service is provided in several Asian, Middle Eastern and African languages besides English
Casework and advocacy
Case management and advocacy services provides personalised, culturally responsive support for women and their children experiencing domestic violence. Our trained case workers and social workers understand the cultural nuances and complexities many migrant and refugee women encounter which may be overlooked by others due to lack of familiarity with such ethnic cultural contexts. We provide legal advocacy, immigration advocacy (condition to eligibility), housing advocacy and welfare advocacy.
Safehousing
Our Refuge/Safehouse service provides essential temporary housing for women and their children in need, creating a safe and culturally responsive environment where you can begin to heal. Our safe houses are women-centered, secure and confidential, ensuring your privacy is protected and choices are respected. It’s a place where you can pause, recover and start rebuilding your life with dignity.
Counselling
Through sister entity Shakti Community Council Inc., we offer counselling and well-being services besides court-referred Safety Programmes for those experiencing violence and abuse. Our services are both face to face and online, providing flexible support options to meet your needs.
Life skills programme
Shakti’s Life Skills programme serves as a pathway for surviviors of domestic violence to open up new windows of opportunity towards self-reliance. The programme is designed to educate, empower and strengthen participants’ ability to become employable and self- reliant.
Our life skills programme is a 12-week course delivered collaboratively with sister entity Sustainable Development Education Training and Advisory Trust (SDETAT). This extension provides women with valuable work experience and exposure to New Zealand’s workplace culture.
Community risk management
Our Community Risk Management team supports Shakti’s clients living in the community or moving to the community from safe houses by providing resources and knowledge to keep themselves safe. Our CRM team conducts personalised risk assessments, safety planning, and provides home safety alarm and safety watch to support clients to live with peace of mind and more confidence.
